How to Apply

General

Accommodation offers are made based on the order of applications received. Submit your application promptly to secure your accommodation.

Before applying, please make sure you are familiar with:

  • Living conditions
  • Services and amenities
  • Prices and deposit
  • Terms of the residential agreement

This will help you make an informed decision about your accommodation.


Application and Contract Information

  • The application period for the spring semester opens on 2 January.
  • Applications submitted before this date will be cancelled, as the application queue is not yet open.
  • Important: The contract start date is the 4th of February 2026 for all exchange students arriving for the spring semester, regardless of their actual arrival date. This aligns with the University of Tartu’s suggested arrival date.

Please note that as the residential agreements for autumn semester end on the 1st of February 2026, it is generally not possible to move into the Student Hostel before the 4th of February.

  • Important: Students will sign a fixed-term residential agreement corresponding to their official study period at the University of Tartu, as indicated in the university’s admissions notification.

Please note that rent must be paid until the end of the residential agreement, even if you choose to move out earlier.


Application process

  • The application process may take up to one week, so not everyone will receive their offer at the same time. Please be patient.
  • You can submit your preferences in your application. If it is not possible to meet all your preferences, we will contact you to find a suitable solution.
Step 1 – Submit your application online

Fill out the online application and our system will create an account for you automatically. After submission, you will receive a confirmation email with your E-kyla login information.

Step 2 – Receiving the accommodation offer

If your application is successful, you will receive an accommodation offer via email. You can accept or decline the offer by logging into your E-kyla account and opening your application.

Step 3 – Making the deposit payment

After accepting the offer, you will receive a deposit invoice within 3 business days. The payment must reach us within 7 calendar days. If the deposit is not paid on time, the offer will be canceled.

Step 4 – Accommodation confirmation

Once the payment is received, you will get an accommodation confirmation via email with instructions for check-in.

Step 5 – Arrival and signing the residential agreement

You can move into your room from the contract start date, keys will be issued from that date. Keys are issued at the Raatuse 22 reception, open 24/7. You are not required to move in on the contract start date. After arrival, instructions on signing your residential agreement will be sent via email.


Cancelling or changing your housing

  • If the reservation is cancelled before the start date of the contract, the deposit will be refunded in full, minus any applicable bank transfer fees.
  • If you cancel your reservation after the start date of the contract, accommodation fees will apply, and the deposit will not be refunded in full.
  • If you do not arrive at the Student Hostel within 14 days from the start of your accommodation period (as indicated in your application) and have not informed us of your delayed arrival, your reservation will be automatically cancelled. In such cases, accommodation fees will apply, and the deposit will not be refunded in full.
